A Biden, Sanders Divide In Western Massachusetts On Super Tuesday

The Boston Globe

In a Super Tuesday stunner, Joe Biden won Massachusetts.

Among the places that helped deliver the victory to the former vice president were the largest cities in western Massachusetts: Springfield, Chicopee, Pittsfield, and Westfield.

Bernie Sanders carried Holyoke.   Elizabeth Warren, in what turned out to be a very grim night in her home state, won Northampton by a single percentage point over Sanders.

For more on the western Massachusetts vote on Super Tuesday, WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill spoke with Matt Szafranski, Editor-in-Chief of Western Massachusetts Politics & Insight.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
