There was confirmation today that Republican Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker and Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito will run for reelection in 2018.

In a tweet announcing his run for reelection next year, Baker said, “We’ve accomplished a lot together, but there’s more work to do.”

Jim Conroy, Baker’s 2014 campaign manager, told the Statehouse News Service that a formal campaign launch will occur next year.

WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill spoke about the news with Tim Vercellotti, professor of political science and director of the polling institute at Western New England University.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
