Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker campaigned door-to-door in a Springfield neighborhood Tuesday urging a vote to lift the cap on charter schools.
Baker has become the most visible advocate for Question 2 on the Massachusetts ballot. He stars in a TV ad and recorded a robocall that went out to 400,000 households.
Baker argues more charter schools in places like Springfield, would help close the achievement gap between white and minority students.
" If you like the schools your kids go to you have nothing to worry about, this isn't about you," Baker said.
Teachers’ unions are fighting fiercely against Question 2.
If it passes a dozen new charter schools a year could open in Massachusetts beginning in 2017.
