An investigation by a Massachusetts state agency found campaign finance law was violated when the city of Springfield promoted a Hillary Clinton campaign event on the city’s official website.
The Massachusetts Office of Campaign and Political Finance said the city’s official website and Facebook page were illegally used to promote a rally in Springfield on the eve of the March 1st primary where Mayor Domenic Sarno endorsed Clinton.
" She is firm. She is experienced. But, more importantly, she is respectful and she is compassionate," said Sarno of Clinton at the rally on February 29,2016
The state agency decided not to impose a fine in the case because it said the city promptly removed the website posting after complaints were made.
The city blamed an inexperienced staffer in the mayor’s office for the mistake.
