Cuomo doesn't support term limits as part of new ethics package

Unveiling a new ethics reform package in New York City today, a week after a pair of corruption scandals rocked Albany, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said he doesn’t support term limits as part of a push to cut down on fraud by public officials. Analysis by good-government groups shows incumbents in the New York state legislature are overwhelmingly reelected.

“It’s a valid issue to be discussed and I would welcome a dialogue in discussion," Cuomo said. "I don’t personally support term limits. I believe we have term limits; it’s when people vote you out of office. My father was term-limited out of office. Democracy ultimately works. It’s not my position but I understand there is a difference of opinion and I think it’s something that should be looked at."

Cuomo spoke on YNN television. Cuomo’s Public Trust Act will empower prosecutors to battle public corruption and includes stiffer penalties.
