Martin Austermuhle

Martin Austermuhle is a reporter in WAMU’s newsroom. He covers politics, development, education, social issues, and crime, among other things. Austermuhle joined the WAMU staff in April 2013 as a web producer and reporter. Prior to that, he served as editor-in-chief for DCist.com. He has written for the Washington City Paper, Washington Diplomat and other publications.

Born in Switzerland, Austermuhle lived throughout Latin America before coming to the U.S. to attend Pennsylvania State University. He received a master’s degree in Latin American Studies from Georgetown University. He lives in the Washington neighborhood of Michigan Park with his wife Carolina, a school teacher, and their two daughters.

The chant black lives matter is echoing across the country. And now it's even emblazoned in massive yellow letters en route to the White House. From member station WAMU, Martin Austermuhle reports.

The image would shock just about anyone: a fire so large that it seems to stretch halfway up the 550-foot-tall Washington Monument, and burning so bright that it dramatically illuminated the landmark.

Shocking but fake.

Summer Kriegshauser is one of 150 students in the inaugural class of the University of Maryland, Baltimore's Master of Science in Medical Cannabis Science and Therapeutics, the first graduate program of its type in the country.

This will be Kriegshauser's second master's degree and she hopes it will offer her a chance to change careers.
