Police Investigate Shootout In Northern New York

New York State Police are continuing their investigation after a shootout near Plattsburgh on Sunday.

Sunday afternoon police responded to a residence in Schuyler Falls in the Town of Plattsburgh for a welfare check on 34-year-old Kevin M. Doherty. When troopers attempted to make contact, he fired a shotgun at them.

Troopers Shannon Saunders and David Rogers returned fire and Doherty was struck several times. He is currently in stable condition at Albany Medical Center and faces charges when released.

No one else was injured.

Doherty was arrested in May for an alleged assault and criminal mischief. In March, police say he was arrested for driving while ability impaired by drugs after he drove into a house.
