Invasive Species Boat Stewards Begin Monitoring Adirondack Lakes

Adirondack Park Invasive Plant Program

Boat stewards will be stationed at nearly 100 boat launches across the Adirondacks starting during the Memorial Day weekend to stop the spread of aquatic invasive species.
The Adirondack Watershed Institute annually coordinates the effort with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation to inspect boats for and educate people about invasive species.

This year additional training was provided and stewards will wear Personal Protective Equipment to avoid spreading the coronavirus. Organizers ask boaters to wear masks and maintain social distancing at boat launches and be aware that inspections may take longer due to the additional safety protocols.
