The budget officer for the Plattsburgh City Council says furloughs and layoffs planned when the coronavirus pandemic began to impact city finances are going into effect.
The city council in northern New York’s largest city has been monitoring its budget closely as tax and revenue losses mount from the pandemic.  Finance committee chair Mike Kelly said Thursday after analyzing the budget they implemented the job cutbacks.   “Today it looks like we have a $2.8 million deficit. So we’ve made some necessary furloughs and layoffs but I fear that there may be other cuts before the end of the year.”

Kelly said about 30 workers are affected. Other positions will remain unfilled.
