White House Drug Policy Director To Speak In Vermont

White House Drug Policy Director Michael Botticelli

White House Drug Policy Director Michael Botticelli will be speaking at a Vermont conference on substance abuse.

More than 275 people who work with children and families are expected to attend the daylong conference Wednesday in Killington. It's aimed at strengthening collaborations to support families affected by substance abuse, including opioid drugs.

The event — hosted by the Vermont Health Department — will include keynote presentations and workshops.

Botticelli, who is in long-term recovery from a substance use disorder, will give a talk called a 21st century approach to drug policy and public health. Dr. Ira Chasnoff, a professor of clinical pediatrics at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago, will discuss the mystery of risk: drugs, alcohol, pregnancy and the vulnerable child.
