Entering the final stretch of his Democratic primary race against incumbent Senator Ed Markey, Massachusetts Congressman Seth Moulton says recent polling doesn’t match enthusiasm he’s encountered on the ground.
In the weeks leading up to Sept. 1, polling in Massachusetts hasn't had much good news for the Moulton campaign.
Two polls, one from Suffolk University and another from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, have shown the 6th District U.S. representative behind by double digits, including a 28% gulf in the UMass poll.
While traveling through Springfield last week, the Salem Democrat said polling has been wildly off in other parts of the country, and that an energy for change remains in the Commonwealth.
"With all due respect to Senator Markey, who's 80 years old and has been in Washington for 50 years, the question voters are asking is, 'what are you going to do differently in the next six that you haven't done in the last 50?'" Moulton said. "Because there are a lot of urgent problems we have to address. We've got to bring down the cost of housing. We've got to bring down the cost of electricity. We've got to figure out AI. We've got to make sure that our kids can succeed in the new economy. We got to get out of this war in Iran and actually put a check on Donald Trump."
Moulton, who is 47, has frequently brought up Markey's age on the campaign trail.
The incumbent Markey would be 86 by the end of what he says will be his final term if re-elected.
