Officials in Connecticut have confirmed the state's third case of measles this year.
According to the state Department of Public Health, the case was confirmed in an adult from Hartford who recently traveled internationally.
Measles is highly contagious but is easily prevented through vaccination. The individual's vaccination status is unknown.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 2,700 cases of measles have been reported this year, as of Aug. 20th — the nation's highest total since 1991. More than 90% of cases were in individuals who were unvaccinated or had unknown vaccination status.
