Former New York Congressman Anthony Brindisi says he will not seek the 22nd district House seat after narrowly losing a rematch to Republican Claudia Tenney in November. The race was not called until February following ballot challenges and a myriad of problems with vote tabulation. During that interim period, Brindisi – who ousted Tenney in 2018 – had said he planned to run in 2022 regardless of the outcome. However, in a statement Thursday, the one-term Democrat cited time away from family as a reason not to toss his hat into the ring.

"It’s no secret how important my family has been, and always will be, to me," Brindisi said. "I cherish all of our family meals, hikes, trips, baseball games, softballs games and more — together."

New York will have new district maps in 2022 after losing a seat in the latest round of reapportionment.
