Officials in Schenectady New York have declared a state of emergency after a mudslide was reported early Sunday.
The Daily Gazette reports the hillside at 223 Nott Terrace gave way without warning. A man, who was not identified, was rescued after being trapped for nearly an hour. He was then airlifted to Albany Medical Center for treatment of injuries. Neighbors have been evacuated.
The American Red Cross Eastern NY says volunteers provided emergency aid to 21 adults after the mudslide Sunday morning. The agency says buildings at 213, 223 and 225 Nott Terrace were affected. The Red Cross says it provided financial assistance for shelter, food and clothing. The agency says staff and volunteers will be available in the coming days to help those affected by the mudslide.
Photos taken at the scene show mud and debris piled against a home. Two buildings affected by the landslide will now have to be demolished.
