The man accused of starting the fire that damaged more than 30 buildings in the City of Cohoes on Thursday has been released on bail.

NewsChannel 13 reported Saturday morning that 51-year-old John Gomes was released from Albany County Jail.

Gomes is alleged to have started a barrel fire before flames spread to nearby buildings. He’s been charged with non-intentional arson and reckless endangerment.

Demolition work on the affected buildings is ongoing.
