New York state regulators are seeking public input on plans to expand the mountain biking trail system in the Adirondacks.
A trail network has been established in Wilmington, Lake Placid and Saranac Lake. A management plan proposed for the Saranac Lakes Wild Forest calls for building 35 additional miles of bike trails in the region.
The Department of Environmental Conservation and Adirondack Park Agency are seeking comments on guidelines for mountain bike trails in the Forest Preserve. The park agency has posted the draft plans on its website.
Proposed guidelines include several types of trail systems. Trails would follow natural contours of the land with minimal tree-cutting and avoidance of wetlands where possible.
