Services will be held Friday and Saturday for Schenectady’s Commissioner of Public Safety Wayne Bennett, who died this week at age 71.
Public Safety Commissioner Wayne Bennett died Tuesday after a battle with cancer.
A retired State Police Superintendent, Bennett was hired by former Schenectady Mayor Brian Stratton in 2007 at a time of turmoil within the city police department after a scandal involving the arrest of several officers.
Bennett also served as Deputy Mayor under current Schenectady Mayor Gary McCarthy.
Services for Bennett are Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the State Police Academy at 1220 Washington Avenue, Building 24 in Albany, and on Saturday at St. Mary’s Church at 10 Lodge Street, also in Albany.
