Historic Downtown Schenectady Building Demolished

Another change has come to Schenectady’s skyline.

The historic Nicholaus Building on the corner of State Street and Erie Boulevard was torn down Friday.

The Daily Gazette reports the decision was made to demolish the structure after engineers brought in to monitor the building reported the building posed “an immediate threat to public safety."

The 197-year-old building was closed last year after structural issues emerged after a neighboring building was torn down.
