G.E. Researcher, Former R.P.I. President Roland Schmitt Dead At 93

A former General Electric physicist who later became president of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy has died.

The Daily Gazette reports Roland Schmitt died Friday afternoon in Scotia at age 93.

Schmitt led what is now GE Global Research as Chief Technology Officer from 1978 to 1986.

He served as president at RPI from 1988 to 1993.

A memorial service will be held at RPI in June.
