Bharara Accepts Trump's Offer To Remain, Drawing Praise From Schumer

U.S. Attorney for the Southern District Preet Bharara

U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara, who successfully prosecuted former State Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos and Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver on federal corruption charges, said Wednesday he has been asked to stay on by President-elect Donald Trump and accepted.

New York U.S. Senator Charles Schumer called Bharara “one of the best U.S. Attorneys New York has ever seen.”

Bharara previously worked as chief counsel to Schumer. In September, Bharara charged nine in a sprawling alleged bid-rigging scandal for economic development projects in New York.
