Governor Andrew Cuomo has appointed a panel to develop a plan to make the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse a year-round magnet for business and tourism. Speaking Wednesday in Syracuse, the Democrat says he’d like to detail the plan during his January State of the State address, noting that if it’s good he’ll advocate for a repeat of the recent $50 million investment at the fairgrounds.

“How do you make it the premiere convention, exhibition site where companies all across the country want to come here all year long?” said Cuomo.

More than 1.1 million people attended the state fair this year, the highest total in its 175-year history.
