New York is seeking public comment on a proposed change to a management plan for 92,000 acres of state-owned land in the Adirondacks.

The state Department of Environmental Conservation says its proposed amendment to the Vanderwhacker Mountain Wild Forest Unit Management Plan will improve access for hikers and paddlers. The land includes 44 ponds and miles of trails.

The state proposes replacing a foot bridge over the Boreas River and creating new parking spots at Palmer Pond, Moxham Mountain trailhead and Balfour Lake.

Public comments are being accepted through Aug. 12. A public hearing will be held July 27 at DEC's Warrensburg office.
