NYS Assembly Democrats Propose Limiting Outside Income

flickr

New York's Assembly has voted to limit legislators' outside income to about $70,000 annually.

The bill would also treat limited liability companies like other businesses that can give any state candidate only $5,000 a year. The measures are intended to curb the influence of outside money on state government.

Senate Republicans have opposed both measures.

Base yearly pay for lawmakers is $79,500.

Governor Andrew Cuomo has proposed limiting legislators' outside pay to about $12,000.
