UPDATE: One Dead, One In Custody After Standoff In Watervliet

UPDATE 1/10/16: Police have released the identity of a man accused of killing his neighbor and instigating an armed standoff with police.

Watervliet Police Acting Chief Mark Spain says 49-year-old Michael J. Fox was arrested on charges of killing his neighbor, 29-year-old Brandon Sherwin.

Fox is facing multiple charges including murder and criminal possession of a weapon.  He is being held in Albany County jail.

Police say one person is dead and another is in custody after a nearly five-hour standoff in upstate New York.

The Times Union of Albany reports (http://bit.ly/1ZczL5g ) that the standoff unfolded Friday night into Saturday morning at a house in Watervliet, north of Albany.

Acting Police Chief Mark Spain says officers received a report of possible shots fired at around 9:15 p.m. Friday.

He says that when police arrived on the scene a man had barricaded himself inside the house.

Spain says officers spent hours trying to coax the man out and didn't take him into custody until 3 a.m. Saturday.

When officers went inside they found a body.

Details including the names of the suspect and the victim were not immediately released. Charges are pending.
