Father Of New York Church Beating Victims Needs New Lawyer

wikipedia.org

The case against a father of two teens beaten inside an upstate New York church is on temporarily hold until he has a new attorney.

Bruce Leonard's previous attorney stepped down following a death in the family.

Leonard appeared briefly for a scheduled hearing Wednesday in Oneida County Court, where two days ago seven co-defendants were offered plea agreements.

The judge adjourned the session until a replacement lawyer is found. He didn't set a new date.

Leonard is charged with second-degree murder, manslaughter, kidnapping and assault in the October group attack that killed 19-year-old Lucas Leonard and injured 17-year-old Christopher Leonard. Authorities say the beatings took place during an all-night counseling session inside Word of Life Christian Church in New Hartford, near Utica.

Bruce Leonard's wife, Deborah, has pleaded guilty to assault.
