New York's chief financial regulator has announced he'll soon leave the post.
Acting Superintendent Anthony Albanese has been in charge of the Department of Financial Services since June, when the fledgling agency's first superintendent, Benjamin Lawsky, resigned.
Lawsky, an attorney, was the first superintendent of the new state agency that combined insurance, banking and consumer protection oversight in 2011. He opened a consulting business and became a visiting scholar at Stanford University.
Albanese, also an attorney, tells staff in a memo that he has recently accepted a position outside government and will stay at the department long enough to ensure a smooth transition.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo has not yet named a replacement superintendent.
