U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is pushing legislation to crack down on illegal gun trafficking.
According to the New York Democrat the bill would make gun trafficking a federal crime and would give tools to lawmakers to get illegal weapons off the street and prosecute those trafficking firearms.
Gillibrand was joined in Manhattan Sunday by community advocates and the New York Police Department.
The NYPD says 3 officers were murdered by illegal guns in a span of four months this year.
In May, New York Police Commissioner Bill Bratton and Attorney General Eric Schneiderman announced the bust of a smuggling ring that collected 93 guns.
