Albany Protesters Rally After Taser-Related Death

WAMC

Protesters gathered in Albany Friday night calling for justice after Albany resident Donald “Dontay” Ivy died after being detained by police. Police had used a taser on Ivy. He died minutes later after being transported to Albany Medical Center.

In a video posted by the Times Union Albany city councilman Mark Robinson spoke to fellow demonstrators through a megaphone.

“I will have to stand here and say that this is not just an incident that takes place in one community. It takes place in communities across America.”

The three officers involved in the arrest have been placed on administrative leave.

In a statement released Thursday Albany mayor Kathy Sheehan asked residents for patience while police complete their investigation. She said “Our condolences go out to the family during this difficult time.”
