NEW YORK (AP) — New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo says hundreds of plows from across the state were dispatched to Long Island to clear roads clogged up by a massive snowfall.
The governor says it's one of the largest mobilizations after a winter blizzard in the state's history.
Hundreds of motorists were stranded Saturday on the Long Island Expressway and other parts of Suffolk County. Even emergency equipment couldn't reach them.
Cuomo says Suffolk bore the worst of the storm's impact on New York.
On Sunday, more than 400 additional plow trucks were working to make roads passable ahead of Monday morning rush hour.
A total of almost 700 pieces of equipment and almost 1,000 personnel are boosting local recovery efforts, including snowblowers, trailers, backhoes and tow trucks.
