Police Say NY Man Stole $467K from Construction Company

Money

Authorities say an upstate New York man charged with stealing more than $50,000 from his employer actually stole nearly 10 times that amount.

State police investigators tell the Adirondack Daily Enterprise that an examination of Lawrence Jaques' (jayks)' bank records revealed that he actually embezzled more than $467,000 from Torrance Construction of Lake Placid.
When police arrested the 63-year-old town of Keene resident on Dec. 12, they said he had stolen more than $50,000 from the company, where he was employed as a bookkeeper for 12 years.

Jaques, a former Keene town councilman, was charged with grand larceny and is being held in Essex County Jail on $50,000 bail.

His lawyer, Ronald Briggs, says he has no comment on the charges.
