Acting Executive Director of the Hudson River Valley Greenway and National Heritage Area Mark Castiglione said the 256 mile Water Trail has been officially recognized by the US Department of the Interior as a National Water Trail and is one of the first in the country to receive such an honor.
“The national designation will help shine a spotlight on the Hudson River as a recreational resource and it will also draw attention to the Water Trail as a unit and will hopefully help drive and increase eco-tourism in the Hudson Valley,” said Castiglione.
Kingston Mayor Shayne Gallo said the designation is a nice shot in the arm to the businesses and residents of the area because of the access and opportunities for outdoor recreation it affords to both tourists and locals.
