Last night in Memphis, Rudy Gay poured in 26, as the Grizzlies knocked around the Knicks 94-83. New York played most of the second half without Carmelo Anthony, who sprained his right ankle early in the third.
Elsewhere, Cleveland topped Phoenix 101-90, Milwaukee beat Detroit 102-93, Orlando outlasted Golden State 117-109, and Atlanta routed Charlotte 111-81. The Hawks will be without Al Horford for at least three months, after the center tore his pectoral muscle.
To Top 25 college hoops, Duke downed Virginia 61-58, Murray State got by Jacksonville State 66-55, Minnesota upset Indiana 77-74, Mississippi State survived Tennessee 62-58, and St. Mary's routed Gonzaga 83-62.
On the Women's side, Kentucky upset Tennessee 61-60, Miami upended Maryland 75-63, and Delaware blew out UNC-Wilmington 69-37.
To the ice, last night in Boston, Tim Thomas turned aside 33 shots, as the Bruins beat the Canadiens 2-1.
In New York, Jason Spezza tallied twice and Craig Anderson stopped all 34 shots, as Ottawa cooled off the surging Rangers 3-0. The Rangers had won five straight and 10 of 11.
Elsewhere, Vancouver edged St. Louis 3-2, Nashville rallied to beat Colorado 3-2, Chicago dumped Minnesota 5-2, Philadelphia skated past the Islanders 3-2, Calgary blanked Anaheim 1-0, Carolina cruised past Tampa Bay 5-2, Detroit dropped Phoenix 3-2 in a shootout, and San Jose shutout Winnipeg 2-0.
In college football news, Alabama running back Trent Richardson, linebacker Don't'a Hightower, and cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick have all decided to skip their final season and enter the NFL draft.
Meanwhile, Florida running back Jeff Demps is giving up his football career to focus on track and the 2012 Olympics.
And in baseball news, baseball's owners have persuaded Commissioner Bud Selig to accept a two-year extension through 2014. The 77-year-old Selig has held the position since 1992.
