Albany, NY – Well nothing was easy in the Big Easy for the Giants...
On Monday Night Football last night from New Orleans, the Saints took advantage of a porous Giants defense, racking up 577 total yards in a 49-24 rout at the Superdome. Drew Brees threw four touchdown passes and also ran for another, as the Saints improve to 8-3, one game ahead of Atlanta in the NFC South. New York falls to 6-5, one game behind Dallas in the NFC East.
In other NFL news, Texans quarterback Matt Leinart is done for the year after fracturing his collarbone on Sunday.
To the ice, Minnesota topped Tampa Bay 3-1, Nashville skated past Edmonton 2-1, Dallas dumped Colorado 3-1, and Los Angeles blanked San Jose 2-0.
In other NHL news, the Capitals have fired coach Bruce Boudreau, and the Hurricanes have canned coach Paul Maurice.
In Top 25 college basketball, Florida's Billy Donovan earned his 400th career coaching win, as the 10th-ranked Gators cruised to a 96-70 win over Stetson.
Elsewhere, Louisville topped Long Beach State 79-66, Marquette blew out Jacksonville 88-56, Xavier rallied to beat Vanderbilt 82-70, and Memphis got by Jackson State 70-45.
In other college basketball news, Syracuse men's basketball coach Jim Boeheim ran a closed practice yesterday, as sex abuse victims' advocates questioned whether he should still coach following the firing of longtime assistant Bernie Fine, who's been accused of molestation by three men.
To college football, Urban Meyer has been hired as the new head coach of Ohio State. Meyer, who won two national championships while at Florida, takes over a program that has a glittering past, but has also suffered through a difficult year of NCAA violations. Meyer resigned as Gators coach after last season, citing health concerns and a desire to spend more time with his family.
And in baseball news, catcher Jose Molina and the Rays have agreed to a $1.8 million dollar, one-year deal.
