Hydrofracking Rallies Planned in Binghamton

Binghamton, NY – Groups for and against fracking are holding media events in Binghamton on the second day of state hearings on proposed regulations for natural gas drilling in the Marcellus Shale region of southern New York. WAMC's Tristan O'Neill reports...

The New York State Petroleum Council, along with local landowners and business leaders, says it will focus on the role of shale gas in energy security, job creation, and economic stimulus.

Residents of Dimock, Pennsylvania, whose wells were contaminated by a gas-drilling company will join environmental groups and elected officials to warn against health and environmental ills they believe fracking will cause.

Fracking, short for hydraulic fracturing, involves injecting millions of gallons of chemical-laced water into a gas well to free gas from dense shale a mile underground.
