Plattsburgh, NY – Unofficial results from Tuesday's elections indicate that Democrats picked up two seats in the Clinton County Legislature. It results in a 5 - 5 split between the Republicans and Democrats. Clinton County Democratic Chair Marty Mannix says his candidates ran a high energy, old-fashioned campaign. In Essex County, most of the Board of Supervisors were up for election. The board will see some changes in people, although the party mix will remain the same, with 8 Republicans, 7 Democrats and 3 Independents. The most contentious race was in Crown Point, where Democratic Incumbent Bethany Kosmider lost to Republican Challenger Charles Harrington. Essex County Democratic Committee Chair Sue Montgomery-Corey notes there were numerous races across the county. The Supervisors in the Essex County towns of Chesterfield, Lewis, Moriah, Ticonderoga, and Wilmington were unopposed. Incumbent supervisors in Essex, Keene, Newcomb, North Elba, Westport and Willsboro were re-elected. New supervisors have been elected in Crown Point and Schroon. Three votes separate the candidates in North Hudson. In Elizabethtown, incumbent Noel Merrihew is trailing challenger Margaret Bartley by 9 votes. Essex County Republican Committee Chair Ron Jackson says every year he's both happy and disappointed with the results. Both Clinton and Essex Counties elected numerous town clerks and tax collectors, justices, supervisors, town councillors, highway superintendents and assessors. Unofficial results are available on the county Board of Elections websites.
