Albany, NY – Well the Cardinals have forced a World Series Game 7...

Last night in St. Louis, the Cardinals twice were down to their final strike, but rallied to beat the Rangers 10-9, on an 11th inning walk-off homer by David Freese.

Texas took the lead in the seventh on back-to-back home runs by Adrian Beltre and Nelson Cruz. But the Cardinals chipped away, and tied it with two in the ninth, on an opposite-field triple by Freese. Josh Hamilton's two-run bomb in the 10th put the Rangers ahead 9-7. But the Cardinals tied it with two runs in the bottom of the 10th, when Lance Berkman, who hit a two-run homer earlier, tied it with a two-out, two-run single. Then in the 11th, David Freese sent a Mark Lowe offering deep into the St. Louis night, forcing a World Series Game 7 for the first time since 2002.

The Rangers Matt Harrison will get the ball in Game 7 tonight, and Cardinals manager Tony La Russa has yet to decide whether to pitch ace Chris Carpenter to the mound on short rest, or start Kyle Lohse or Edwin Jackson.

In NBA news, owners and players held 7 1/2 hours of negotiations yesterday, in an attempt to end the lockout. Talks will resume this morning. Both sides agreed some progress has been made, and union executive director Billy Hunter believes an 82-game schedule would still be possible, if a deal is reached by Sunday or Monday.

In Top 25 college football action, Houston quarterback Case Keenum threw nine touchdown passes, as the 18th-ranked Cougars overcame a slow start in a 73-34 win over Rice. Keenum has now set the FBS record for career TD tosses with 139.

On the ice, Winnipeg outlasted Philadelphia 9-8, Edmonton skated past Washington 2-1, Toronto doubled up the Rangers 4-2, Montreal downed Boston 2-1, Buffalo beat Columbus 4-2, Nashville topped Tampa Bay 5-3, Pittsburgh edged the Islanders 3-2, Phoenix got by New Jersey 5-3, Ottawa dumped Florida 4-3, Anaheim held off Minnesota 3-2, and Los Angeles dropped Dallas 5-3.
