Albany, NY – Well the Yankee captain is four hits away from 3,000...

Last night in Cleveland, C.C. Sabathia fanned 11 in seven scoreless innings and Curtis Granderson homered twice, as the Yankees routed the Indians 9-2. Yankee captain Derek Jeter went 2 for 6 in the win, leaving him four shy of becoming the 28th major leaguer - and first Yankee - ever to reach 3,000 hits.

In Boston, Darnell McDonald gunned down Edwin Encarnacion at the plate for the final out, as the Red Sox held on for a 3-2 win over Toronto.

Elsewhere in the AL, Minnesota edged Tampa Bay 3-2, Texas doubled up Baltimore 4-2, Kansas City dumped the White Sox 5-3, the Angels blanked Detroit 1-0, and Seattle slipped past Oakland 4-2 in 10.

Over to the NL, in Los Angeles, Jason Bay homered twice and Carlos Beltran belted his thirteenth in support of Mike Pelfrey, who scattered five hits over six scoreless innings, as the Mets blanked the Dodgers 6-0.

Elsewhere, Philadelphia blew out Florida 14-2, Atlanta got by Colorado 5-3, Pittsburgh downed Houston 5-1, Arizona topped Milwaukee 7-3, Washington held off the Cubs 3-2, San Diego downed San Francisco 5-3, and St. Louis beat Cincinnati 8-1.

In other baseball news, Cardinals slugger Albert Pujols has been activated off the DL, just two weeks after fracturing his wrist. Pujols is expected to be in the starting lineup tonight.

Record-setting pitcher Roger Clemens' perjury trial gets under way today in our nation's capital. Clemens will appear in federal court on charges of lying to Congress in 2008, when he denied ever using performance-enhancing drugs.

In cycling, two-time runner-up Cadel Evans won the fourth stage of the Tour de France, narrowly beating defending champion Alberto Contador. Thor Hushovd retains the overall leader's yellow jersey.
