Albany, NY – One expert says the adoption of marriage equality in New York could bring legal challenges in the future. WAMC's Greg Fry reports...

New York State Bar Association President Vincent Doyle says current state law prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation, while also protecting the exercise of legitimate religious beliefs.

"If we start seeing different interpretations of it, interpretations that don't respect both of those principles, then there could be problems," says Doyle.

The Marriage Equality Act adopted by New York lawmakers includes language protecting religious entities from legal action, if they choose not to perform same-sex marriages. The new law will take effect July 24th.
