Albany, NY – Several major issues remain to be considered on the last day of New York State's legislative session. WAMC's Ian Pickus has more
The Times-Union reports that privately, the legislature is already planning on remaining in Albany after today if key issues aren't tackled in time. Still outstanding are a same-sex marriage bill that has polarized the Senate, rent control, and a possible deal on a property tax cap.
Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos says there still isn't a deal on marriage equality, believed to be one vote short of passage. Skelos' Republican conference has pushed for stronger protections for religious institutions in the bill, and no vote has been scheduled.
Meanwhile, as state workers plan rallies across the state today, rent control advocates will gather at the Capitol. Rent laws expired last Wednesday before an emergency extension was passed.
But it expires at midnight tonight.
