Albany, NY – Well big news in the realm of college football...

Ohio State head coach Jim Tressel has resigned after an NCCA investigation revealed he knew about violations committed at the university. According to Sports Illustrated, as many as 28 Buckeye players are alleged to have traded or sold memorabilia, in exchange for tattoos, marijuana or cash. NCAA investigators are also looking into whether star quarterback Terrelle Pryor received cars and other extra benefits. Luke Fickell will serve as interim head coach. Tressel leaves with a 106 and 22 record over 10 years, including a national title in 2002.

Tonight, the Mavericks visit Miami for Game 1 of the NBA finals. Tip-off is scheduled for 9.

Tomorrow night, the Bruins and Canucks hit the ice, as the puck drops in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup final from Vancouver.

To baseball... At Citi Field, Josh Thole's tie-breaking, two-run double helped the Mets down Pittsburgh 7-3. New York's won two straight.

In other NL action, Arizona trounced Florida 15-4, San Francisco dumped St. Louis 7-3, Philadelphia edged Washington 5-4, Cincinnati topped Milwaukee 7-3, the Dodgers ripped Colorado 7-1, San Diego got by Atlanta 3-2 in 10, and Houston hammered the Cubs 12-7.

Over to the AL... In Oakland, Bartolo Colon tossed a four-hit, complete game shutout, as the Yankees beat the A's 5-0.

At Fenway, Alexei Ramirez knocked in two in a four run sixth, as the White Sox toppled the Red Sox 7-3. Chicago's beaten Boston 11 of the last 13 meetings.

Elsewhere, Toronto blasted Cleveland 11-1, Detroit dropped Minnesota 6-5, the Angels outlasted Kansas City 10-8, Texas trampled Tampa Bay 11-5, and Seattle slipped past Baltimore 4-3.

At the French Open, defending champ Rafael Nadal defeated Ivan Ljubicic in straight sets to reach the quarterfinals at Roland Garros. Also on the Men's side, Robin Soderling and Juan Ignacio Chela are in the quarterfinals. Novak Djokovic has reached the semis, after his would-be opponent withdrew with a leg injury. On the Women's side, Victoria Azarenka, Li Na, and Maria Sharapova have all advanced.
