Albany, NY – Consumer advocates, law professors and a former US Bankruptcy Attorney are urging New York Governor David Paterson to sign a bill they say will protect financially-struggling families: they brought their message to Albany today and Capital District Bureau Chief Dave Lucas was there...
The advocates support a bill that updates New York's antiquated bankruptcy and consumer protections. The measure passed both the Senate and Assembly over the summer, with bi-partisan support. The advocates calim banks are pushing for what they call a "Christmas Eve Massacre" in the form of a veto by Governor Paterson. Should Governor Paterson sign the bill, it would take effect near the end of January.
