Albany, NY – The Mayor of Albany, New York has appointed a new police chief. WAMC's Steve Felano has more...

Mayor Gerald Jennings has selected Steven Krokoff to head the Albany Police Department. While serving as the city's acting police chief, Krokoff was one of four candidates submitted to the Mayor for consideration by Albany's Police Chief Advisory Selection Committee.

Krokoff is a fifteen year veteran of the Albany Police Department, and began his career in the city's patrol division. His selection by Mayor Jennings ends a nine month national search for a successor to former Police Chief James Tuffey, who retired last year amid allegations that he used a racial slur.

The City Charter requires approval of the Mayor's appointment by the Albany Common Council.
