The head of the Vermont National Guard says the organization is investigating after one of its soldiers was charged with sexual assault.

The weekly newspaper Seven Days first reported on the charges against Sergeant Daniel Blodgett, who has pleaded not guilty.

During a virtual Town Hall Thursday night Adjutant General Gregory Knight condemned the alleged behavior as “abhorrent” and “repulsive."

“Anybody who chooses to behave in such a way they don’t deserve to be in uniform," Knight said. "I’ll do everything in my authority to insure that when I have the information of such behavior that I’ll take the strongest and most appropriate action I am able within the constraints of regulation and law.”

Knight said the Vermont Guard has created a provost marshal position to identify soldiers who break the law.
