Springfield Jazz Festival Going Online

Springfield Jazz & Roots Festival

Like so many events this summer, a free annual music festival in Springfield, Massachusetts is going virtual.

In each of the first six years of the Springfield Jazz & Roots Festival it has drawn thousands of people to downtown Springfield to catch international stars and local bands playing jazz, blues, Latin, gospel, soul, and funk.

This Saturday, when the festival was scheduled to be held, people will have to go to a video screen to enjoy the performances.

WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill spoke with festival co-producer Kristin Neville.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
