The Burlington City Council has voted on a resolution to accelerate the removal of a controversial mural commemorating the history of the city.
Councilors in Vermont’s largest city have approved removing the “Everybody Loves a Parade” mural by Aug. 31, two years ahead of schedule.

Critics of the mural, depicting the region’s history, have questioned the lack of representation of people of color and the inaccurate depiction of native communities.

Ward 3 Progressive Brian Pine introduced the resolution.  “While it’s a small step I think this action says a great deal about our shared values of creating a community of inclusion and genuine belonging.”

Councilors voted 11-1 to hasten removal of the mural.
