With Massachusetts schools ordered shut until at least May 4th, questions about the remainder of the schoolyear are hanging over educators, students, and parents alike. Pittsfield Superintendent of Schools Jake McCandless spoke with WAMC about the likelihood of Berkshire County’s largest school district returning to in-person learning this spring, as well as the challenges of remote learning and the possibility of budget cuts as the city adjusts spending.

Josh Landes has been WAMC's Berkshire Bureau Chief since February 2018 after working at stations including WBGO Newark and WFMU East Orange. A passionate advocate for Berkshire County, Landes was raised in Pittsfield and attended Hampshire College in Amherst, receiving his bachelor's in Ethnomusicology and Radio Production. You can reach him at jlandes@wamc.org with questions, tips, and/or feedback.
