Academic institutions around Berkshire County are responding differently to the spread of COVID-19. Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts is moving entirely to remote learning starting in April after an extended spring break. Meanwhile, the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in North Adams has extended its break through Friday, March 27th before returning to normal classes on March 30th. Berkshire Community College, with 1,600 students from around the county and a flagship campus in Pittsfield, is canceling many events into April. Dean of Enrollment Management Christina Wynn explained to WAMC how BCC is crafting its response, and why the community college faces unique challenges.

Josh Landes has been WAMC's Berkshire Bureau Chief since February 2018, following stints at WBGO Newark and WFMU East Orange. A passionate advocate for Western Massachusetts, Landes was raised in Pittsfield and attended Hampshire College in Amherst, receiving his bachelor's in Ethnomusicology and Radio Production. His free time is spent with his cat Harry, experimental electronic music, and exploring the woods.
