Berkshire County NAACP To Hold Fundraiser, Awards Dinner

NAACP-Berkshire County Branch
Dr. Shirley Jackson Whitaker is the event's keynote speaker.

The Berkshire Country branch of the NAACP holds its annual Freedom Fund Awards Dinner Saturday.

In addition to handing out awards to community members, Chapter President Dennis Powell says the event will raise funds for black students from Berkshire County who are trying to pay for college.

“A lot of times they fall short. Why, we don’t really give scholarships, it’s more or less a stipend for financial support. And so we’re hoping to be able to give 10 $1,000 stipends.”

The Freedom Fund Awards Dinner is at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Berkshire Hills Country Club in Pittsfield, Massachusetts.
