Tanglewood Begins Year-Round Programming At New Center This Weekend

Boston Symphony Orchestra

The Tanglewood Learning Institute kicks off its year-round programming this weekend with film, music, and more.

For the first time in Tanglewood’s 82 years, it will host events during the fall and winter. Boston Symphony Orchestra Managing Director Mark Volpe says they will be housed in the new Linde Center complex.

“We have 103, 104 buildings in Tanglewood," said Volpe. "These are the four that are actually winterized, so we’ll be able to have activity through the course of the year, some of which we’ll produce, and I hope that the towns will use and the other cultural institutions that are there in the winter will use our facilities and there will be opportunities for other education institutions to use the facilities when we’re not.”

The kickoff weekend includes a collaboration between cellist Yo-Yo Ma and choreographer Mark Morris featuring the music of Bach, art and photography classes, and chamber music.

Josh Landes has been WAMC's Berkshire Bureau Chief since February 2018, following stints at WBGO Newark and WFMU East Orange. A passionate advocate for Western Massachusetts, Landes was raised in Pittsfield and attended Hampshire College in Amherst, receiving his bachelor's in Ethnomusicology and Radio Production. His free time is spent with his cat Harry, experimental electronic music, and exploring the woods.
