Environmental Groups Urge Zero-Waste Plan For Massachusetts

WAMC

The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection has begun to draw up a new waste disposal master plan.

A coalition of environmental groups, including MASSPIRG, Toxics Action Center, and the Conservation Law Foundation have announced the Campaign for Zero Waste.

The goal of the campaign is to bring about a dramatic change in the state’s current waste management practices that rely on landfills, incinerators, and recycling centers.

WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill spoke with Janet Domenitz of MASSPIRG.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
